I have just acquired a 1.8 16v with 100k miles on the clock. Although it runs well at engine speeds above about 1,500rpm it will not idle. If allowed to idle it misfires badly and hunts and shakes around until it stalls. I had it in the local Renault dealer and they were unable to diagnose the problem. The car has been regularly maintained at a Renault dealer and was serviced about 200 miles ago. That dealer could not recall any problem at that time.
I have checked all the basics all the cylinders are firing and all the injectors are working. I checked the compression and get about 15bar or 210 psi per cylinder.
High speed performance is good with plenty of power.
Can anyone help or suggest a solution?

My Laguna now runs well. I took it to Mill Lane Renault after a recomendation. They had one of their Renault experts look at it and solved the problem with only 2 hours of time charged. The valve timing was off. It now runs perfectly and it only cost just over 100 pounds. I highly recommend these people and the chap who took care of my problem was Phil.
