94 Laguna Autobox

Post by frobby »

Hi
Anybody experiance problems with the automatic gearbox on a Laguna?
It's the second time it has happened to me, stuck in third but only sometimes. All the seals etc. were changed at 37,000 miles and my problem is back! A similar problem happened on my Megane. I take it Renault are known for this.
Thanks
Mark

well this could be a tricky one but lets have a look see - likage is now usualy electronic so you could look at the connections, some have a vacume pipe system like the mercs this could be your problem but not 100% - check the sides of the gear box on one side you will find the wire harness which is for the selector on the other side there should be a kick down with wire harness and vacume pipe (check pipe has not come off and is in good condition no holes - if not this type then it could be down to links on throttle body, there should be 2 cables one is the accelerator and the other the kick down these can often vibrate and move causing the car not to change gear at the correct speeds mainly the kick down cable in the manuel you should find the setting for the kick down cable - it seems you have done all the other things like fluid level. hope this helps but they are complicated little buggas

Thanks Handman
I'll check that out but I have a feeling it's internal.
Yes they are buggers! So I might put in a another gearbox.
Best quote I've had was £325, bit of a total pain 'cause I like my car!
Thanks again

Just as a suggestion, have a look at this message about a similar happening with a Renault a little while back.
May offer an option you may not know about depending on where you live.

With an auto holding on in a particular gear, it can often be a case of bands needing adjusting within the transmission which in reality is supposedly part of routine servicing. A knowledgeable service centre or a transmission specialist who knows his job shouldn't really find that such a big job.

I have a 1999 T Reg Megane Scenic. The automatic gearbox has started playing up recently in that you can hear and feel the gears are not changing and the "auto" light comes up on the control panel. Car was serviced two weeks ago and as there was a fault code a fax was sent to Renault to find out how to fix the problem. I was told today that it is the gearbox hydraulic distributor. Can anyone explain what this is and if the problem is severe and how it may have happened?
P.S. At the service I was told I had a slight oil leak which could wait for the next service (in 12 months time). As my warranty cover runs out at the end of April I said I wanted this fixed at the same time as the gearbox.
Many thanks.
