Renault 19 Cabriolet Immobiliser & Central Locking

Post by spezzer »

hi all
ive a got gorgeous '95 williams blue renault 19 softtop which is a great drive and great fun in the summer.
it has one major flaw - the infrared key plipper / central locking keeps packing up, the lastest occasion being yesterday. during the 5 years ive owned it its been to a renault garage about 4/5 times to have the plippers(x2) resynced and costs £30 a-piece. to make matters worse, if i dont unlock it using the plipper, the immobilier is not disabled and the car wont start. so i can get in the car with the door key and turn the ignition, but with the immobiliser enabled, it just dies again.
it seems to have happened 2 days after recharging the battery up on monday after the car was left standing for a fortnight over xmas. it was fine tuesday, but failed on wednesday - dont know if this is relevant?
how can i get around this without paying the garage more dosh? on the last visit they reckon i would need a new unit under the bonnet which was going to cost £100+ which, frankly, is way of reach, let alone the resync cost!
[:(]ive put 2 new batteries in the plipper - it made no difference.
[:(]ive disconnected the battery for 2 hours in the hope that would reset it - it made no difference.
a guy at work reckons theres a reset for the plipper / central locking that I can do myself - anyone know where / how?
sorry to on a bit - but i'm desparate and relying on lifts which is a real pi**er.

[}:)] Phew - just got of the phone with SJ Cooks Bristol and Renault UK. Cooks refuse to provide the code I need and Renault UK claim they wouldnt have it and cannot authorise Cooks to provide it because of renault regulations. SJ cooks threw the data protection act at me - so I came back with "where is it stated in the data protection act that renault have the right to withhold date to the extent i cannot drive my car" - renault uk are going to investigate and contact SJ cook - watch this space...

What a load of old c@~p!You would have thought that if you showed them the right proof of ownership(logbook, personal id etc)that they would give you the code.
My wifes old escort didn`t come with the code for the radio,& it was locked.I phoned Ford,"no problem sir, just come in with your wife & documements & we`ll give it to you"

[8D] - hey progress!
i went to Platinum Renault in Bath Friday at 5:15pm - by 5:20pm I had two 4 digit codes - nice one Platinum!
i successfully unlocked the immobiliser on Saturday using one of the codes with the accelerator and the secret immobiler button!
the only thing i couldnt figure was resyncing the plippers - ive got a number for each and according to platinum it doesnt matter which plipper is given which number - except i dont know how to apply them - any ideas? ( bear in mind these plippers dont have transponders and are just plain infra-red )
anyway - i'm up and running again!
( no thanks to Cooks and Renault UK - you bunch of buereax-kratting, waste of space, pen pushers! )
