407 Radio Beeping

Post by doctle »

The radio in the car is working but beeping every couple of seconds. There's a new battery in the car. Is this something I can fix myself or do I need a new radio?

Yes, beeping is normally the sound made when the radio has been changed for another OE unit from a different car. The radio needs pairing to the car and you need a PP2000 or Diagbox to do this.

No I didn't replace the radio, I rang the guy I bought it off he said they had a better radio in the car when they used it and this is the original. Main dealer when she's fixed up!

Yes, the radio needs re-coded to the car.

I don't think that it is the original radio, more an example of the original radio that was fitted. The guy who sold it to you probably didn't realise they were coded to the car as replacement radios don't need to be coded in. Maybe he had more than example to choose from?

As Sticky says. coding (also known as pairing) to the car is the answer.

I would check the Lexia map (in the following link) to see if there are any Lexia owning forum members nearby willing to help out. All they should need to do is to connect it up, and then (in the relevant menu) introduce the radio and car to each other. That will then stop the beeping. Fitting a non OEM radio may cause other unforeseen issues.

What sort of unforeseen issues? I contacted a member before, I called him a few tomes he didn't pick up, if the kenwood wouldn't work I'd probably go to a dealer.

You're right! Main dealer said I need the radio to adjust the computer for mpg etc, he will pair the radio for €30.00 plus VAT which seems pretty reasonable to me. Thanks for the warning!

Citroen C5 replacement radio

Post by Steven2012 »

My c5s (2012), started playing up by freezing and cutting out. Citroen charged me £51 to tell me that I need a new “media unit”.
I’m guessing that’s the actual CD player/radio.
Anyway they quote me £800 for new one and programming.
Can I buy a second hand unit the exact same for cheaper and is it just plug and play. Or will this need to be programmed?
Any help advice would be appreciated.

I gather from the members of this site that a similar radio can be "introduced" to the car using software so maybe a used one and get a member here that knows what they are doing to sort it? My car cost €300.00 so a new stereo would be madness!

That's more or less correct. Can I suggest you post this in the Citroen section and you may get a better answer there.

If you could post a photo of the unit that may be a help. Maybe your VIN for those that can check these things.

Also a better location than just Scotland in case there's someone with a Lexia/Diagbox nearby.

Hi Paul,

I signed up to DM you but couldn't get the option, I'm having the same beeping issue with my C3 (2008), I'm based in Wirral. I've researched a bit and can only work out that it needs a machine to fix it, I'm based in Wirral and would happily pay a fee for you to take a look and possibly fix the oh so irritating beeping that's coming from my radio! :D

Cheers, Lew
