Ng4 Stereo

Post by Bonger1969 »

Hi guys I'm new to the forum and hope someone can help me out. Does anyone know the facial diamensions of the ng4 unit. Not the surround of the whole facia but just the stereo face. I want to fit a double din stereo to my c5 x7 and need to know if one fits in the slot where the ng4 goes,
Cheers guys. Bill Williams

A double DIN should fit, although you'll likely have a gap where the fascia blends into the console. Also, be aware that the unit does control other functions of the car so you will loose functionality if you replace this. When removing the unit, you should always disconnect the battery first and ensure you disconnect the 40 way Quad lock connector before the Multifunction screen connector, as removing this with power on can brick the display unit, unless you are not bothered.

I'll assume you know you'll loose your Navigation, safety alerts, internal telephone, voice commands and all the other system features if going ahead.

I don't have a screen in my c5. I know I'll loose my steering wheel controls but the stereo i want to fit has GPS, Bluetooth, dvb TV, DVD and reversing camera all in one

Not sure I understand - from your post I assumed you had the NG4 Navidrive System - which has the large Colour screen? Are you confusing the NG4 with the RT4 / RD4 system?

No i don't have ng4 unit. I can purchase the dash part that houses the unit and fit a double din stereo to it.my c5 has just the single din mp3 player. I just needed to know the size of the opening in the unit that houses the ng4 Stereo.

If I'd known a week ago I would of measured it for you, but I've just put the whole lot back in. Do you want the height and width of the cut out in the dash or the metal unit excluding any trim of the NG4 measured?

The night and width of the cut out in the dash would be great

Ok, so I went out this morning and measured as follows:

Red arrow - the width of the metal chassis of the unit is 18cm and 18.7cm if you add in the fascia surround.
Green arrow - the depth is 16.2cm from the rear to the front of the chassis
Yellow arrow - depth is 17.5cm from the rear of the chassis to the front of the fascia surround,
Blue arrow - the height of the chassis is 11.3cm or 12cm if you include the extra height of the front fascia (top to bottom)

I didn't want to unhook all the connections again, but looking at it, there is about an additional 1 mm - 1.5mm of extra space additional to the top and side of the recess to allow the unit to be inserted and removed.

Glad it helps and good luck with whatever replacement you are putting in. If you get the right one, (make sure it is CAN compatible) you should be able to retain steering wheel controls. It will depend very much on the Unit itself, the interface, and connecting cables. What are you thinking of as a replacement incidentally?

That'll be very interesting to see.

What unit do you have in mind to fit?
