Mystery Key

Post by fatbugger »

Hi everyone
The answer to this may seem obvious to most of you but I am not sure.
Have just aquired a Peugeot 406 GLXTD 1996/1997 and in the boot on the right hand side as you stand at back of car there appears to be a key switch. This is mounted on the inside of the back panel just below the plastic trim on the lip of the boot. What is it? my ignition key does not fit the lock.
Also in the middle of the dashboard just behind the screen in between the defroster vents is what looks like a red led. Is that supposed to light up when the alarm is activated?
Dont wish to sound thick but I just dont know
Regards
Mike

Probably there to allow you to unlock the petrol cap manually if the central locking goes tits up.
And yes that is a alarm warning light. should flash when activated.

Hi
That keyswitch in the boot is to turn the alarm siren on & off, It needs its own key, The key will have "Texton" stamped on it.
You are very lucky, The alarm was an optional extra on that year of 406.
That thing between the defroster vents, Do you mean the one between the front screen vents? If yes, Thats the sun sensor for the automatic air conditioning.

Hi
Also try this on your GLX, Open all 4 electric windows.
Deadlock the car with the remote key, Big button first & then small button & watch what happens [:D]

Hi
No BOOM!
Early N & P reg + a few R reg GLX, SRI & Executive 406s had a total closure feature that shuts all open electric windows when the car is deadlocked with the remote key.
Also do you have the handbook for the car?
If not, have a look under the front passenger seat, There is a small tray there for the handbook pack & it might be hiding there.
The L & LX didnt have the storage tray for some reason, lol
Its a real stupid place for Peugeot to hide it & not many people know about this. lol

Thanks to everyone for all the info.
This car never fails to amaze me. I found out the other day it has rain sensitive wipers as well. What with digital climate control, windows that close themselves when dead locking and auto aircon sensors I think I had a bargain for a shade under £1300.
Came with tax and mot as well. Found hand book but is for HDI model.
Can probably pick one up from Peugeot.

Hi
Also, you can set the RF remote keys to unlock the 4 digit keypad imobiliser for one minute when you remotely unlock your car.
You have to program the remote keys to the keypad first though, Ask you Peugeot dealer for the leaflet on how do do this because the early handbooks didnt have the instruction on prgraming the keys to the keypad in.
