Post by moomin »

ive got a 1994 1.9 XLD. a little while ago i raced my friends escort and won (yay) but not by much. his is only a 1.3 but the difference was only 2 or 3 car lengths, any way, now he is demanding a rematch (sor loser) i know he has been tuning his up, so i was wondering if there is any thing i can do to mine. ive got a haynes so any pages references would be good. cheers all

Apart from cleaning the intercooler and fitting performance type air filter there is little to tune to this type of diesel as there in no ECU. Do not think of touching any pipework connected to the turbo as these things are expensive to fix with an F!!
One final note, I hope the rematch is on a private road/dissued air strip for insurance purposes.

the only thing I can say is this, I can put my hands on a peugeot 605 2.1TD engine that you can tune upto 110bhp if you have got a crow bar ?

There’s not a lot you can do to improve the performance of the non-turbo 1.9 diesel engine. A free flow air filter may give you a couple more BHP, but I doubt you would notice any difference. You could try some diesel injector cleaner which again may give you a small increase in power.
Or a cheaper option would be lowering the weight of your car, if empty your boot, leave your spare wheel and jack at home. Plus only having a few litres of fuel in your tank it may take a tenth of a second off your 0 to 60 time.
Still beating a petrol engined car in a non-turbo diesel is impressive. [:)]
