Having trouble with my Peugeot 405, please help.
Hi all I'm a new member, I've got a Peugeot 405 2.L GTX 94 M Reg, this morning I used the remote to open the doors as usual and nothing happened there was no noise that I usually hear of the central locking, I did this a few times but then I noticed that when using the remote the indicator lights were flashing as normal but central locking wasn't working, I then used the key to open the doors but only that door opened the others remained locked, but the car started as normal using the key Pad, and one more thing the boot will not open at all even using the key.
Can anybody tell me what's wrong, I phoned a few local garages in the area and they said they'll look at it and they are charging £35/40 per hour plus any parts and Peugeot main dealers want £75.00 per hour, I'm tempted for the local approach but will they find what's wrong with it because French cars have this reputation of scaring the Mechanic's, while the main dealer's will probably know straight away what's wrong, please help me here.[V]

Hi
You either have a broken wire between the drivers door & the A piller, A faulty lock motor, a dirty earth connection or a faulty locking control box.
Try unlocking with the key from the passenger door & see what happens.
The boot lock will just be stiff, spray some WD40 & work the key about in it.

Thanks for quick reply, I do have a AirBag in my car, I did try unlocking from the passenger door and only that door opened and regarding the boot the key goes in and i can turn the key from centre position to right but not from centre to left to open the boot, as it says in the handbook, I'm not very mechanicaly minded as you've probably guessed are they any simple things I can do to find out.

Hi
The next thing to do is check the fuses in the fuse box for the central locking havent blown.
Try another key in the boot lock if you have one, If the key turns one way it should turn the other.
The key only turns a small amount to the left to unlock & then you return the key to the upright positon & press the button.

Hi
No problems mate, Ive been tinkering with 405s for the past 5 yeras, lol
The electrics on 405 are ok if you look after them, apart from the alarm system which is just plain awful [:(!]
The only problem is the Haynes 405 manual doesnt have the correct wiring info for airbag equipped 405s, Its the hybred 405 / 406 wiring thats courses confusion.

Hi I've looked in the handbook for the fuses and there's no mention of any fuses for central locking, I tried with the spare key to open the boot but no joy it just will not turn left, while coming from work I went to a Pug Dealer near to my house and spoke to the parts section guy he said on each door there is a acuator(don't know if I spelt it correctly) motor switch £24.00 each, and if one goes all of them don't work I told him the boot isn't opening at all he said that's probably where the fault is he said it could be the acuator £27.00 or the actual boot lock £15.00, he said to change the acuator is fairly simple but in order to that you have to open the boot he said they got a standard charge of £75.00 per hour, while the local garages are about £40.00 per hour if I take it to them are more likely to make it worse by fitting the wrong part or have no idea, while the main dealer are charging alot but will find the fault and fix it.

Hi
The fuses are mentioned in the handbook, There are 2 pages of fuses & what they protect.
Fuse no 15 a 30 Amp is the central locking fuse.
I cant see by looking at the wiring info how 1 dead locking motor would stop the others working???
I dont fancy the task of getting the boot open on a saloon 405
It looks like it can be done, If you have some long extension bars & a 8mm socket, you can undo the locks 2 bolts through the ski flap.
Im not sure which side the bolts are on the boots bulkhead, Perhaps you can gain access through that way to the boot lock.
Its not a task I fancy & perhaps your better off digging deep & seeking a Pug dealer for help.

You're probably right, perhaps this is a Main Dealer job even with their high charges, but then again my 405 which I bought new in 1994 has been good for me, other then servicing, tyres, 2nd new battery and one rear box, this is the first major problem with it.
P.S. You're there are 2 pages on the fuses I missed the first page,it's says that other then the central locking, it also covers front/rear courtesy lights, boot lights,so if the fuse had gone those things wouldn't work, but the front/rear courtesy lights are working fine, so I'll be booking it in and let you know what they find.

Hi
Check the fuse yourself in the fuse box, because the courtesy lights have more then one fuse feeding them!
There is also a feed from the courtesy light time delay relay for one.
The 405 is a very good car, apart from the rubbish Peugeot alarm system & the need to keep the spare wheel cage bolt well greased.
