406 under powered

Post by Malcolm »

Hi,
Just got an 'N reg'406L 1.9 Turbo - 80k, with what sounds like it has a blowing exhaust downpipe, not too noisey but it's there. The engine sounds good, starts well and runs even ect.
The drive is good but no performance, feels less than non turbo 405 I have. I don't have experience of turbos other than understanding the principles - exhaust driven etc.
The blowing exhaust is on the bend at bottom of downpipe. Could this be what's not driving the turbo or is there a common problem that may need some serious spend?
Any sugestions appreciatd.
Thanks
Malcolm

Hi again,
The exhaust may be contributing to the power loss, but I have just found that the large feed pipe from turbo chager to intercooler was disconnected. Reconnectd, jubilee clip tightened - jobs a gud'un.
Taken her out for a spin - no comparison, great acceleration. I will sort the exhaust leak out at weekend and maybe get a bit better performance.
Thanks for reading. Hope this experience may help others. Yes it was an obvious one, but it was dark last night etc. etc.etc.
