Auto Window Switch - 306

Post by r_306_XSi »

Hi All,
Can anyone tell me whether the automatic window switch for the 306 Mark 2(that sits in the drivers door) contains all the whizzy electronics to make it "auto", ie go up all the way up/down on one push / "one shot". I have a "manual" electric window switch that is looking a bit worn, and that annoys me! and I'm wondering how easy it is to convert - anyone know?

Looking at the Haynes comic - it seems to show that the Window Switch drives the window motor direct (although in many cases I have found that a relay actually exists although mysteriously absent from the wiring diagrams)... If this is correct, I should just be able to plug in the new unit and it'll work??
If not, I guess the worst I have is a new looking switch with an "A" on the drivers window switch, not so bad?!?
Has anyone got a definitive answer? [?]

Hi
Not sure on the 306 setup.
On the 405 the switch is different for the auto function & also there is a control box inside the door thats needed to.
It can be converted, It depends on your skills with Peugeot electrics.
I coverted my 405s passenger window to auto with switches on both doors too, I found it easy to do.

Hey, Thanks for the speedy reply!!
I might just see how much I can pick up a decent looking switch for at the scrappy and have a little experiment if the cost is not to much!
I can always sell on ebay / somewhere I'm sure!

Hi
Pick a switch & its plug up, Also if its the same as the 405 setup look for the black control box behind the door trim & get that & its plug, also get a plug from the window motor.
The wires from the switch match the ones to the control box.
There will be a +12 volt & an earth too at the control box.
There will be the feed out from the control box to the window motor

Hi
Unplug your motor plug first
Just match all the colours up on your scrapyard bits, switch
, control box & motor plug, then plug the new motor plug in.
Connect the control box to the battery & try it out.
If it all works ok, Its time for a pukka install job

Unfortunately, unveiling my masterplan to the missus revealed she hates one shot systems as she can't figure out how they work, is scared she will get her hand stuck in the window, thinks they are spooky, and some other weird stuff...
so, the upshot is, it's on hold until I can figure out how to switch between the two systems, or convince her not to open the windows - neither of which seem very likely!!

Hi
If the window gets jammed or there is something stopping it, The window will stop going up on its own.

Yup - told her that! She was a bit worried that she didn't understand how to make the window stop at any point...
I think at this point I should mention - she is blonde...

To stop the window moving you just press the switch again, lol
