605 ABS fault (possibaly)
I am guessing the yellow light with a car skiding on it is the ABS light, if this is right mine won't go off, I have just got a 93 diesel 605 it starts and run's fine, no problems with breaks themselves, if I slam on normal breaking works ok, is there an easy solution ? if I buy a draper fault code reader will I be able to find the fault ? if I took the light bulb out the dash could I get it through an MOT test ? can anyone fix it ? I have a h plate 605 diesel aswell I can use for spears or give to anyone that wants to come and fix it ! my e-mail address is :- talk2me@bigwig.net

Forget about removing the bulb. You won't fool the MOT bloke by doing that. Your trouble could be one of the wheel sensors. Use the search feature on the top right. Type in "ABS warning light stays on Xantia". It should lead you to a topic posted in 2002. Alan Smith's reply refers you to David Woollard's site which may give you a lead.

Hi
If the lights on or flashing, The ABS is then shut down.
Do you know what ABS system your 605 has fitted? Bosch? Bendix? Model of system? Have a look under the bonnet & post soem more details if possible.
Dirty electrical connections will put the light on.
Both brake light bulbs ok? Connections to rear lights ok? Brake light switch ok?
Under or overcharging by the alternator or a faulty battery will also put the light on.
A dead or faulty wheel sensor will also put the light on.
A draper fault code reader wont get you any codes out the system.
There is ONE Bosch ABS system that does support flash codes with the dash lamp, But I doubt your 605 has this sytem fitted.

i drive a J reg 605. had loads of problems with the ABS (bendix system) a couple of yrs back. sensors were fine but pump faulty at first then it was the relay to the modulator. came to a point where there were no brakes at all. was quoted almost a 3rd of the cars' value to have it sorted. finally decided to rip off the ABS and fit a conventional braking system taken off a 406 for a fraction of the cost. there are only a handful of 605s in malaysia and mine is only one of 2 2 liter models so original parts for the brakes were hard to come by. don't have problems with MOT this part of the world so conversion wasn't an issue.
like some of the others have mentioned you m ight also want to check and clean the wheel sensors.
hope you get the brakes sorted because its a great car to drive.
cheers

Many thanks for all you help so far, I have devolped a new fault with my breaks ! (how good am I?!?!?) I have changed the ECU with my other 605 it's a benedix system I have, I put the other ECU on my car and the ABS light goes out, however if I drive round and slam my breaks on it comes on (going off after turning engine off and back on) any suggestions ? and OH my god, how bloody hard is it to change the flameing front fog's and the front side lamps.... buggers !
if i'm not mistaken. you'll need to ensure that the ECU you switched is similar to the original (make & model). with the rate your ABS is giving problems i think you might have to consider a trip to the dealers. the ABS warning light error code should show on the diagnostic machine. that would give you a better idea of what the problem actually is.
to change the front side lamps the front grill and the h/lamp has to come off as the side lamp is screwed on to the h/lamp as well.
cheers

Just to update people that have been following this thread, my car now after a change of ECU and a bit of brake fulid in it, it seems to have cleared up however sometimes when I go into reverse the light come back just to say "HI remeber me?!?!?" and every now and then when driveing round it comes on, I did have my front wheel of today and noticed broken wire I have now repaired them but I think it is only for break pad levels.... it's going for the MOT in the morning and my fingers will be crossed !

Hi
If the ABS light is coming on when you select reverse, You need to check the earths at both rear lights & where it connects onto the body too.
Heres a link to the problem explaned on a 306, Click on "Electrical" at the top & then on "ABS" in the list on the left
