406 blower and idle problem

Post by lucandowen »

Hi all
i've got a couple of problems with my 98/S 406 2.1TD that I need help with....
first is the erractic idle that seems quite common after reading through the whole peugeot forum, I see that changing the water temp thermistor might help so i am going to try that fix.
the second is that the air blower is stuck on nearly full. The slider goes back and forth but does not go any lower than nearly full on???
Any ideas gratfully received....

I followed the advice elsewhere on the pug forum and changed the water temperature thermistor......hey presto I have a normal car again!!!
Thanks for the info, I hate to think what peugeot would have charged me to diagnose and fix it...under £10 for the part and 15 mins to fit
Just the blower to sort out now....don't think I will fix this so cheaply!!

Your blower motor resistor has shorted to earth, Either remove the motor & fit a new resistor or go down the scrapyard & pick up a secondhand working motor.
205, 306, 405, 406, Xsara, Xantia. You should find one down there.
The blower motor is behind the glovebox, Under the glovebox is a bit of carpet trim held in with 3 x black plastic push rivits, Remove these & the carpet trim & the motor is there, unplug it & undo the screws & out it comes, really easy job.
