Hi newbie here,
I have a big problem, just bought a 1998 406 2.1td and had it in to peugeot to change the cam belt. When they started it, the bottom end is all knackered. So the question is does anybody know where I can get an engine from?
Seems like it may be the cheapest way around the problem.
Thanks In Advance,
Barno.

John,
The crank shaft woodruff key has spun at some stage on the bottom pulley so whoever bodged it has used a smaller pin and shimmed the pulley with some feeler gauges. The oil pump pulley will not come off so it needs a new oil pump, the aux drive belt pulley tension is also knackered. So the list (at the moment) reads:
New crank, oil pump, oil seals, aux drive belt tensioner, bottom pulley and woodruff key, probabibly main and big end bearings, cam belt and aux drive belt, oil and filter.
And the approx bill for labour £720 + parts.

So I thought anew engine would be cheaper and quicker because I don't know what else they have done to it.
Thanks Neil.

Presumably the engine was running OK prior to the visit to the workshop. Is it likely that the dealer has b******* it up? As for a 2nd hand engine, you could try www.247spares.co.uk or www.bob4.com
