Hi All, I want to replace the original (2003) power steering fluid in a 54000 mile 1.4 petrol 206 (with aircon) but my Haynes manual does not instruct:
1) How do I drain the system?
2) If this requires any seal replacements?
3) The quantity of (Total Fluide LDS?) replacement fluid?
4) Any other relevant info?
Thanks in advance - Alex.

Re: Draining power steering fluid?
You have a mechanical pump. Originally these were fitted with PENTOSIN CHF 11S fluid - bu that has been replaced with LDS. The two fluids cannot be mixed, so when replacing the system needs to be drained and refilled with LDS - not a problem in your case as you are intending to do this anyway.
Seals need replacing as in the instructions.
Power Steering Drain and Refill Process: Peugeot 206 1.4 (TU3JP)
Draining the hydraulic circuit must be performed with:
Use new oil and top up the circuit
Fill the power steering reservoir 10 to mm above the maximum mark (A).
Engine stopped - Turn the steering slowly from lock to lock in each direction: Approximately 10 times.
Again fill the reservoir up to the maximum level (A).
Bleeding

Draining the hydraulic circuit must be performed with:
- Engine stopped
- The battery disconnected
- Open the filler cap (/).
- Remove the shield under the power train (According to equipment).

- Direct the pipes into a container.
- Turn the steering slowly from lock to lock in each direction.
- Wait for the oil to finish draining.
Refit the new seals ( 3). | Refit:

Again fill the reservoir up to the maximum level (A).
Bleeding
- Run the engine at idle for 2 to 3 minutes without moving the steering wheel.
- Keep the fluid level topped up.
- Bleed the circuit by turning the steering several times in each direction.
- Keep the fluid level topped up.
- (A) Maximum level.
- The level must be set with the engine stopped and the wheels straight ahead.

Re: Draining power steering fluid?
Marc - thanks for this great (and speedily supplied) guide, it's a brilliant help.
1) My local Peugeot parts supplied Fluide DA (part No 16 150 997 80), not the LDS I was expecting. Does this sound OK?
2) I got the seals for both ends on the supply and return pipes in case it makes sense to completely disconnect these to properly drain & flush the system. Would you recommend the extra effort?
Thanks (again) - Alex.

Re: Draining power steering fluid?
1) Yes Alex Fluide DA is exactly the same as LDS - it's just a name change but exactly the same.
2) Always change the seals if any of the pipes are coming off - reason being is that once disturbed / removed they will never 'mate' again and this will ultimately create a leak in future and you don't want to be doing that again.

Re: Draining power steering fluid?
Marc - I was wondering about the advantage of disconnecting the pipes at both ends to fully drain/flush the system?

Re: Draining power steering fluid?
I wouldn’t disconnect all the other ends, as you’ll never get it all out anyway and the system should be free from contaminants. You don’t want to open up the other ends of the pipes unnecessarily to be honest as it introduces potential new problems.
Just drain what you can and refill, bleed, check levels and that should be fine.
