Peugeot Partner Fuel Pump 2003 1.9

Post by Bm1996 »

Hi guys
I’m new to the site so please move if it’s in the wrong section

I have a 1.9 Partner, 2003 model and it won’t start!
I was driving around and there was a sudden surge in power, the it went back to normal then surged again then died out completely.

I managed to start it up and drive it home again which is only about a quarter of a mile away, then it died as I was reversing into the drive.

It just cranks now with no start so I suspect it is a bad fuel pump. I took off the connection to the fuel filter and turned the key and no diesel came out. I can’t hear a prime either when I turn the key.

I want to start off with checking fuses and relays just to make sure it’s not them but I can’t for the life of me find anything on the internet pointing to where they are!

If someone could hp me by telling me where the location of these are, and also any pointers to what’s causing this if it isn’t the fuel pump.
Thanks in advance

Hi, and :welc: to the forum. Might I also suggest you also take a look in the fuel filter housing. If you see small, gold coloured flecks in there that is a strong indicator that the fuel pump is on the way out. If you DO see those flecks make sure to get them out (and, possibly, replace the fuel filter), as if any dirt gets into the high pressure fuel pump it can kill the pump.

Hi guys, thanks for the reply so quick!

I attached a photograph of the VIN number, also want to know what that connector is for

I just checked the fuel filter and there is no gold flakes, that I can see. Also it was full of diesel, I don’t know if that would be an indicator or not

The van started this morning for around 15-20 seconds then cut out again.

So you have a
PARTNER VU (M59) SHORT VAN '600' 1.9 D 71 (DW8B) Manual gearbox 5
This is the location of the relays and the engine fusebox - the other relays will be near and around this area.
Partner Fusebox.PNG
3 is a Relay Box
5 Is the Engine Fuse Box
6 is the Maxi Fuse Box
20 is Likely to be the Glow Plug Relay,

.
As this is an old school indirect injection diesel there is no in tank fuel pump so there wont be any priming.
If you loosen the injector pipes are you getting fuel there?

isn't the pump fed after the filter though? so flecks wouldn't be from the pump unless they're coming via the leakoffs?
