307 2.0 Hdi RHR 136 Engine swap

Post by tmead »

Anybody done this ? I'm coming to agree with the advice I was offered, that repairs involving injectors out are too risky !

There doesn't look to be enough room between the screen and radiator to lift the engine out, but it won't go downwards without degassing the working aircon.

Dropping it downwards with gearbox attached looks most likely ?

I haven't done this job, but I would suspect that the standard procedure is to remove the front panels and radiators , then bring the engine out forwards and up. It seems to be assumed that anyone with facilities for removing an engine also has facilities for degassing the A/C. A mobile A/C specialist shouldn't charge too much I think.

Haynes details a procedure removing it out the front, and reckons it can be done without draining the AC. Official Cit procedure for the C4 is to remove the subframe and drop it out the bottom. When I looked at our C4 Picasso, I didn't think there would be enough flex in the AC pipes to be able to remove the (1.6 HDi) engine out the front without disconnecting.

Hmmmm.....

I can't see how to open the front without degassing, as the condenser is in the way. The compressor is on flexible pipes with a small amount of movement, but I don't think the condenser is.

Exhaust cam replaced to repair broken drive for HP pump. One injector was a pain, but its all back together now ! Not sure if engine swap would have been easier overall, the total for replacement parts was less than the cost of a decent replacemnt with a warranty, but I suspect the labour may have been higher in terms of my hours. Partly because I added some extra time in taking the sump off and cleaning out to try to find the broken bits. (and failing), also partly because I had several pauses waiting for parts such as the injector extractor, one injector stud and one injector leak off connector.
