205 Steering joint

Post by sponix »

205 (1994) has a universal joint in the steering column which is worn.
Can I replace just the joint or is it part of the column? Is it possible to "refurbish" the joint to save having to buy a new one?
Where can I buy a steering column joint? GSF don't stock them.

These are mostly spline to spline, identicle both ends with a pinch bolt, should be no problem getting one from a dealer.
Doubt they will be a servicable item, they are usually pressed together or peened over.

I think a turner can do it easily. The thing is to find a universal joint to the identical dimension.
What I would do is to have it removed and go to a turner.
Can somebody please comment on this issue.
By the way, is it not a bad design of Peugeot which is making us wasting money?!

This is a weak point on a 205 and probably not the worst design feature of the 205.
Nor are Peugeot unique in fitting cars with several badly designed features!
It is quite a cheap part to buy from a dealership and fairly easy to fix.

depending on how badly this has siezed, by using copper grease on the UJ can prolong the life of the joint. The 309/6 has an identical UJ. Done this trick about every couple of month's on my 306 and saved me replacing the unit
