Boxer II camper van - DIAG

Post by jgra1 »

hi all, my boxer has been left standing for some time.. the battery was completely dead.. however, I had it running again, the last occasion was a few days ago. I cant remember if I turned it off, or it stopped by itself

Now it's not starting at all.. it almost catches but that's it.. Before I start checking obvious things, I ran a DIAG on her just now.. results below..

I have never had the key code, or the immob code.. When trying to clear BSI faults I need to enter a 5 digit code? which one is that I wonder? presumably, I need both codes from PSA really ?

I think I noticed the engine ECU was unlocked.

It looks to me like an immobilser has cut in, what do you all think? (there are no lights to say that, or messages)

many thanks
J

well that's unexpected.. I just rang PSA, and can have a card with the Immob code and Key code for £4.48!

It may take a week or two but still.. I have a fighting chance maybe..

Guess I need some blank Keys as well..

Key card is 4-digits. I suspect you need the well-known (except I've forgotten it!) other code. 31121 or something.

I wrote it on my Diag2000 trolley, but that's locked in the shed.

hello Mr Mike :)

Yes, so I am getting both! for four quid, from a dealer! seems ok, was expecting £60 plus ... Does the screenshot above (can anyone see it?) suggest that my key has lost it's connection to the BSI? (the key has no chip, the PO taped an old fob in the steering column) - I suppose my thinking is that the immobiliser has been locked, needed the 5 digit code, and possibly I need to learn a key or 2 with the 4 digit code... odd as the van was running at the time, with a good batt.. or something like that.. I am useless with this stuff

Wotcha! I suspect you may have invoked a fair few of those "faults" with the flat battery, John.

I'd clear them all and see what remains. My guess is quite a few will not return, hopefully the immobiliser ones!

will do ;)

I cant clear any of the BSI ones without the 5 dig code.. in fact, I have never cleared them! as never had the number.. they could all have been from years back !

on a different note, I cant access any logs with PP on this vehicle? what am I doing wrong.. I cant even see a log button

I've only found REPORTS are stored if using Diagbox and that isn't an option on older vehicles like my C5. Lexia stores TRACES but access isn't obvious to me.

Remember a Boxer is Fiat based, the immobiliser code is 5 digits. Fiat based vehicles also use a separate passcode for coding the plips.

Is the padlock light going out when the ignition is switched on ?
If you have the correct 5 digit immobiliser code you can actually bypass the immobiliser by inputting the code using the accelerator pedal, this has to be done each time you want to start it but it could prove if it is immobiliser related fault.

If the battery has been flat for any length of time it probably needs replacing before you do anything else - unless you already have.

true enough Peter.. I remember it all from my older C5 ...

odd thing is, the van was running at the time (I am 99% sure), with a fully charged batt.. anyway, will do a leak off and swap the FPR at some point to see.. not a big worry is it's not being driven at the moment but I have spare time.

in a different note folks :

Whilst I was in the dealers getting the codes ordered, for fun I thought I would ask for gearbox oil for the X7, his sheet only lists one oil for the AM6 gearbox?? from ESSO.. £40+ a litre :rofl2: I said thanks, asked him for a job, then left

chaps, can anyone hazard a guess at the fault below? (it has been recorded in the BSI)

Intermittent fault:
ligne de communication avec calculateur controle motuer
Absence of communication on line W

is it : A broken or bad wire/connector somewhere between BSI and something else.. what is Line W for I wonder..

going to study a diagram now

If that's an F015 code then it will likely be: Absence of communication with the engine management ECU.
As it is intermittent fault, it was probably associated and recorded when you had the issues with the dead battery and couldn't start it - hence lack of communication with the injection ECU John.

thanks Marc..

taking my first look at Sedre now.. quite cool isn't it? :)

I couldn't see a code number for some reason in PP, could be user error..

anyway, today I went to dealers and got the 2 security keycard codes, one 'electric' and one 'mechanical'.. In PP I entered the electric code, accessed the BSI and removed the old faults.

She still wont start but the battery was getting flat so it's back home for a recharge.. after not starting the line W message came (back) up - which makes sense with what you say Marc.. I did see the immobiliser light flashing whilst she was turning over, but that could also maybe be because of the battery condition.

The immobilser status is again 'unlocked' in PP

I couldn't work out how to bypass the immob to prove if that was or wasn't the fault. The instructions are to turn IGn on, hold accelerator down until a multi function ?light/display goes out, then the immob light should flash I think, then I can enter code using accel pedal.. but I never saw the flashing light..
I guess that if I did have problems with the keys/immobiliser, it wouldn't be unlocked..

will revisit with a charged battery in next couple of days, and some easy start, and see what's what.

Cheers,
J

I revisited the van with a decent battery and tried briefly .. still just almost starting , then added the usual spray of easy start and she was fine.. so no immobiliser issues, but either a duff injector or a pressure reg are possibilities..will do a leak off test sometime.
