307 headlight adjustment

Post by doctle »

Another irritating little problem! The dipped beam on my 2005 307 hits the road about 6 feet in front of the car, not very safe. I adjusted the lights using the wall method and that makes the dipped beam acceptable but now the main beams are like anti aircraft lights. I fiddled around with them and when you adjust the low beams the high beams move at the same time. Is there any way to adjust the main beams independently of the dipped beams? Thanks I don't drive much at night and the car passed it's test a few months ago

Did you replace any headlight bulbs recently (i.e., just before THIS problem arose)? I wonder if you have got the bulb in the wrong way up? It should NOT be possible to do this, but try telling that to the bulb!

Actually I had to replace the bulbs recently as new cheapo bulbs wouldn't light in the fog lamps, I'll check alignment again

When I bought my X7 and drove it home I discovered that dipped beam on one of the headlamps was way too high. Turned out to be a cheap bulb at fault as you can clearly see that the filament has been spot welded into the wrong position inside the glass envelope.

When I changed the bulbs I was very careful to put them back they way they came out as there's not much room, the tangs on the bulbs were at 6 o'clock so that's how I put in the new ones. Seems the tang should be at 12 o'clock on the dipped beam and now I have lights. Thank you Mr Hell Razor! "bug*er me dead" as my Ozzie mate used to say

It's much appreciated, I dunno how it passed the test. I don't drive much and even less at night but seeing where youre going is a good thing. I was tempted to go to Halfords for a set of driving lamps thanks to you it's sorted!
