Injector Cleaning

Post by sponix »

What is the best way of cleaning the injectors on a Peugeot 1.9 diesel engine?
As far as I can see the injectors unscrew just like spark plugs after removing the connecting pipes. Is this so?
Once they are removed what is the best way of cleaning them?
Any gotchas when putting them back?

Yes they just unscrew, 27mm injector socket required, loosen the pipes at the injection pump so they will swing clear, don't let any dirt get in at all.
If you are having problems with it and suspect the injectors, take them to a reputable diesel specialist, don't attempt any cleaning yourself, you might damage them, they need testing for opening pressure and spray pattern, if they are not functioning correctly expect to pay something like £70 to get them reworked.
On refitting you will need new copper washers and new fire seal washers, fire seals are fitted with the convex face uppermost, get a long thin screwdriver or something similar (that wont drop into the engine if you let it go), slide a washer up the screwdriver and hold it, then lower the driver into the injector apperture and let the washer go, if you just drop them in the buggers will exercise their right of sods law and land the wrong way up.
Obtain new leak off tubing and a new blanking cap for No.1 (flywheel end) injector.
Then when its all back together the fuel system will need bleeding before the engine will run again.
