406 Hdi no low down oomph.

Post by Peter.N. »

One of my estates has suddenly come over all weak. Very little throttle response until you get to around 2600 rpm then it takes off. Tried MAF as that's what it felt like but no improvement, also found the throttle cable slack, fixed that still no better. No smoke, tried an Italian tune up that didn't help either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks. Peter.

Is it in limp home mode (won't rev over 3000rpm?

I had that a few weeks ago before I replaced the radiator fan, then it did it again on Thursday but was fine again on Friday morning, (Son had the car to work that night)

No Steve it revs OK but doesn't produce much power until it exceeds 2500rpm, is sort of the opposite of limp home, it only has power at the top end - very puzzling. Its driving like a petrol engine, you have to keep changing down.

Eurgh, no wonder it's disappointing.

Thanks for your suggestions, Lexia would be ideal but I have two of them and neither work! They will select the car but won't connect to it.
Never had an EGR problem since I have been running diesels so not familiar with the symptoms.
Didn't know it had a variable vane turbo so not familiar with that either but it does feel as though it's lacking boost low down but it suddenly comes to life at about 2500 rpm, does that sound like turbo vanes or EGR?

Didn't think I had seen anything about it, the 2.2 has one. Will check the EGR but otherwise I am at a complete loss.

I had a similar problem on my 207 I found that my problem was cured by changing the turbo intake seal, it's running fine now. I took it to a garage and they told me that it could be the cause of the problem then I went to a pug dealership and they told me pretty much the same thing. Try changing it not expensive and a bit of p**s to change
