405 steamy windows

Post by apsbaketcase »

My M reg 405 diesel is always steamed up! No passion involved, when you get married that all stops very sharply.
I have removed the pollen filter to improve the air flow and fixed the re circ flap permanently to fresh air but still I am continually using the rear screen demist and demist fan options.
Thx

Know what you mean about marriage.
Your car must be leaking. Are the carpets damp under the mats?

No carpets are OK
The windows mist up rather than drip, once the de mist settings are used it's ok for 20mins

I too think your carpets may be damp.
Also have a look under rear seat for wet/ damp.
At the end of the day, water trying to dry from eg. mats is condensing on cold windows. The demister then dries this up and prevents further condensation while ever it is running.
Quick trick is to lay a sheet of rubber/ thick polythene on floor for a day or two, then lift and look for condensation under rubber. If it's there that's your problem. I realise you may not have much so be patient and move it round after a couple of days.
I think car dealers always keep hatchbacks open to prevent this tell tale sign of leaks!!
There are rubber plugs under floor, box sections, water will find its way in!!
Finally does your coolant need topping, could it be a slight heater matrix leak, tricking into footwell.
Good luck, hope I'm wrong!!

I don't think you will be wrong.
The car is wet somewhere inside.
Feel all the carpets, and under the seats.
Take up the carpet in the boot for a look under that.
Sit inside while a hose is squirted all over and look for anything anywhere.
best of luck
