Apologies I thought the noise was when the pedal was pressed.

I have had that with old Land Rovers and their layshafts first motion shafts etc. Gearboxes can be a nightmare when zipped up and then not working.
You have my sympathy.
I am well recovered now as I have forgotten every part of the process :rofl2:

Thanks everyone, no updates for a week as I'll be away. Maybe a fresh pair of eyes will help!

I got so sick of gearboxes I took a few weeks off. I came across a 2.0 Mi16 gearbox which I snapped up. Of course it arrived with a sheared bolt in the casing requiring £120 worth of machine work, but hey ho. Also needed a new clutch and cable for pull type, but that part of things is working perfectly now.

The car has a custom manifold, cams and a remap so should be making well over the stock 167bhp. On the road I don't think it's there, and I've got a blue haze at the exhaust. On to the next problem :/ Maybe I'll round to a project thread eventually.....

Oh :( at least it drives now & has the 'correct ' gearbox... Just a thought on the oil burning, how long has the engine been laid up for? Possibly a sticky ring if it's been a while since it ran under load. Is it breathing heavily?

It has a loud knocking noise which has got progressively worse, and as it's got worse the car has got slower. I think the donor engine has had some valve issues and higher lift cams have finished things off. Engine out and a full rebuild, I should have done that to start with :rofl2:

Oh.... Oh dear :( Still, you live & learn. At least you got to have a bit of a play before it started to die.

I know you're miles away so not sure what you'd be able to do about collection or shipping, but if you need anything to get it sorted I could give a rap on the door at the farm where there's an Mi16 languishing & see what they say about selling that/parts thereof?

Better than it just sitting gathering spiders and rust, and being realistic I'm never going to get time to do anything near justice to it if it were for sale :( if it gives life to another then so much the better
