206 cc oil leak

Post by Cas1101 »

Hi, new to the forum..

Recently bought a 206cc and discovered a horrible oil leak

Any ideas where it's leaking from?

Wow that is nasty, how much oil is it losing do you reckon?

Hard to tell with oil leaks, even looking at the car in person but that looks major enough that I'd suggest the first points of attention should be oil filter and rocker cover gasket. To make things easier, give the engine a good wash off with brake cleaner (from top downwards of course) until as much oil as possible is gone, then sprinkle talc liberally over any suspect areas and run the engine for a few minutes. Looks like the leak is bad enough that 5mins running ought to show up a stain in the talc wherever it's coming from.

Yes, a good ask. If it's a TU or ET3 than it's almost normal and it will be from the old favourite place - the LH front corner of the cylinder head

I have only ever seen one dry there...

My own 207 is no exception...

Hmm, I gave my reply based on my belief that the CC only has the larger engines :? Completely forgot there could be a 1.6TU Even if it was TU wouldn't that look a bit excessive for the corner HG leak though?

Not necessarily..

I had an AX11 in the early 90s and oil literally flooded out of there. It started as a damp weep but grew and grew until I had to have the job done as it was loosing so much oil.

Robyn's 1.4 TU engined 206 was almost as bad just before we moved it on... I was getting ready to do the HG...

16V heads are no better than 8V heads it seems...

Wow, I seem to have been lucky with my TU engines then. OK I haven't had that many of them, maybe 3 or 4 but never found the oil to leak that badly. Luck of the draw I guess, since one was the 187k 206 and that was a 1.4 as well.

Didn't the RAF then use that 306 for target practise?
