306 key fob problems

I have never been able to use my keyfob.
I have changed the batteries with no luck..the light flashes but nothing happens.
I have read that it can be the sensor under the sunroof panel where it leaks this seams ok. The central locking works ok from the lock.
Anybody had the same problem..any ideas on how to test the parts to narrow down problem because I dont fancy wasting £70 for a little bit of rubber.

Fire the keyfob at a camcorder, you should be able to see the IR.
If it doesn't, try a TV remote to prove the point.
If it's working, I'd be looking at the reciever board to try to spot a signal recieved.

I tried the fob today and it is working fine..genious idea.
What is the best way to check the reciever board???
