Peugeot 307 starting issues

Post by dudarus1 »

I have a Peugeot 307 2.0 hdi 136 and recently it has been getting harder to start from cold once running its perfect. I have checked the fuel filter which is fine. Then i thought i would check the pump in the tank i removed the pipe and turned the ignition on and no fuel came out of the pipe so i thought i had found the problem. I thought just to confirm that fuel flows from this pipe with ignition on i would do a test i removed the pipe from my fuel filter on my van (berlingo 2.0 hdi) and turned the ignition on i got no fuel either. Do these engines have lift pumps or not. I thought they did but appears not. Thanks for your help

If the Peugeot HDi is the same as the Citroen (probably so) then, if you have a squeezy bulb to prime the high pressure pump, then you won't have an in-tank pump.

Only the early 2.0 HDi 90/110s with Bosch injection systems have a lift pump; everything else does without. You need to get it on DiagBox to see what is going on. If the battery is a bit weak or the starter is tired, then cranking speed may be too low to build enough pressure to get it to start injection.

Before condemning the starter, check all the heavy gauge wiring to and from the battery/starter & earths. If it's anything like other PSA wiring then it's likely causing half the problem. (Xantiae are a case in point, the positive leads/terminals fail... As are HDi 206's where the main engine earth strap fatigues due to being too short and flexing) A good check is to see if the battery terminals/leads and engine earth strap are hot after a hard or failed start... Be aware that they can get red hot inside the insulation though so don't burn yourself.

Also PP2000 session would help pinpoint the issue if sorting the cranking speed doesn't fully resolve it.
