407 HDI Electric Power Steering Pump

Post by kitchD6C »

Hi all,

Think I might need a new one. Have had to renew the one in our Saxo twice already, but it's never done what the Pug one is doing. The steering is intermittantly dying (seemingly randomly), but the fluid inside is frothing about after a short journey. The level rises and it spews out of the breather hole in the cap.

I'm still guessing the pump is to blame, but haven't seen that before. It's like it's cavitating.

I was worried that being that it has speed-sensitive power steering, maybe the the controller for that is sending duff signals to the pump. That said, the pump seems to have an ECU build into it, so guessing that's not to blame.

Any ideas?

Sounds like it could be the pressure relief valve in the pump seizing up causing the level to rise, check for damaged, kincked or leaking pipes! A small leak can suck in air which would cause foaming
