vibration at speed

Post by greg_b »

When motorway driving, at speed of about 80 (sorry officer) the steering wheel on my 405 GLD starts to vibrate fairly badly. The brakes were all replaced at last service in Nov. and the vehicle drives and brakes in a straight line. Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this vibration and if it is serious. It only happens at high speed. Cheers

Go get your wheels balanced. £6 a wheel. probably only need one or the fronts doing. Tyre places will do it. 10 minute job.

Or borrow a mate and follow your own car on a fast straight road.
Look at the front wheels and see what you can see.
Sometimes a wheel gets a dink that throws the balance off. The balance weights help but may not competely compensate.

..or if balancing doesn't help, may be you should also check whether the drive shaft has worn out. Worn out drive shaft tend to send vibration shocks at certain rpm and during acceleration.
