Anyone run a 307sw Hdi?
I have been looking round for a suitable car to replace our 406s, not immediately as they are both fine at present and may well outlast me. I came across the 307 today and noticed that they also use the 8 valve Hdi and come into the lower tax class, if there is anyone out their running one, some questions.
(1) what is the overall reliability like?
(2) Does the 2.0. 8 valve have a DPF?
(3) Has anyone who has one owned a 406 in the past and how do they compare?
Thanks in anticipation.
Peter

1) Rubbish if you ask the press.... however, speak as you see! Mine has done getting on for 45k in 3 years - from 80k to 122k now. Never failed to proceed in that time, but has needed both front wheel bearings, bottom ball joints, a coil spring, both TREs, a handbrake cable, rear discs (which have integrated hubs) and pads, a rear caliper, and injector seals. Needs front discs and pads as well really.
2) I don't think so - but then mine is a 'troublesome' 1.6 HDi!!
3) Not owned a 406, but I like the 307. A little bouncy at the rear, but it's nice to drive. Rear leg room is a bit limited if the driver is tall, but I (6') find the seats comfortable.
Reportedly the facelift ones (04? on) are better reliability wise than the earlier ones, but then they went from the 2.0 8V to the 1.6 at 90/110 guise, and added the 2.0 16V in 138 BHP guise - which must go like a rocket!

Our work car is a 1.6hdi, and it was nice - plenty of pull and brilliant on fuel.
However, it wasn't looked after when certain people used it - they just beasted it to death, and now the car has lost it's turbo, had a new EGR valve fitted, injectors are failing/have failed, air doser is goosed......
They're great cars, but they do need TLC.

Re: Anyone run a 307sw Hdi?
Thanks. I would avoid a 1.6 if I did get one on account of their known problems - often brought about by poor maintenance but the 2.0. 8 valve Hdi's are almost indestructible which is why I took an interest in the 307 when I learned it used them.

I had a 2 litre 307 hatch, and as you say, the engine was a delight, so if you're opting for that engine, then you should be OK. I know someone who's got the 136bhp SW and he loves everything about it

Re: Anyone run a 307sw Hdi?
I have and see that they are not exactly copious but I have less need to carry engines and sideboards now so as long is there is room for the dog they should be OK.
My recent second term of hospitalisation has rather put cars at the back of my mind for the moment but thanks for all your input.
