I bought a 2004 Peugeot 607 from a scrapyard just as it arrived with them, saving it from getting stripped apart. The car itself looks quite good:
But has plenty of problems to have caused it to end up there, although the reason i bought it was for the interior:
My current 607 is the Poverty spec model a 2002 2.2 S
Initially, I had thought about removing the black 607s nice bits into the blue car, but my current one has shabby bodywork including a nasty dent on the roof and is not a particularly nice colour. Looking around the black car it has very tidy bodywork and is solid underneath. The downside of the black car is there is oil in the water (it seems like Head gasket failure), the brakes do not work particularly well, and it is in need of a thorough cleaning.
I would consider doing an engine swap but on the black car. However, there is something unusual going on with the ignition. I put a battery in the car, turned the key and none of the lights on the dash illuminated nor did any of the electrics work including the central locking, boot lid, radio etc. It is only after turning the key further and starting the engine does the electrics come on as shown here:
Any ideas of what could be causing this, also the blue car has a 5-speed gearbox and the black one has a 6 speed. What one is the better gearbox in terms of reliability? I only ask as the 6-speed one feels loose at the gear lever compared to the 5-speed box.

Re: 607 engine swap
Sounds like u bought a 607 that was shot to hell by fighter jets O_O a shame really. its a ton of work remapping the ECU and all the bits and bobs involved in swapping engines. You will need to have access to a genuine peugeot planet diagnostic device and software for sure. I had a dream of putting in a mercedes v8 in a 407- that dream imploded as fast as i thought up about it.

Re: 607 engine swap
I'm surprised this never got any replies at the time, I recall reading the post and meaning to reply but obviously never did! Hopefully you still have the black car in one piece?
Do the electrics shut down every time the car is left, or was it just that first time after putting a battery on it? My initial thought would be a BSI glitch, maybe caused by having no battery on for a while or a slightly flat battery.
If it behaved itself since then my plan would probably be to at least pull the head off & see if the engine is salvageable (assuming it is the HG not an oil cooler or something nice & easy like that).
Or if the engine is definitely US then replace the engine like-for-like, perhaps selling/breaking the other car to fund this if money is an issue (it could also donate any brake parts that may be needed possibly, and gearbox if the 5-speed turns out a better bet). Either way, the black one looks so much the nicer car but for it's engine woes so that would be the one I'd choose to keep of the two.

Re: 607 engine swap
I put a battery into the boot of the car and that has solved its engine woes. Given both have a 2.2 HDi engine i think they should swap straight over without any need to go near remapping or altering wiring.

Re: 607 engine swap
Yep sounds like a fairly easy decision then, (I take it you mean the battery has solved the ignition woes, and the engine is still shot) just need some input on what gearbox to go with & probably a bit of time wired up on PP to tell the ECU about the "new" engine's injectors/pump details and it should be a gooden.
Knowing they're both the same engine makes it a no-brainer IMO. (tidy high-spec car with dead donkey/iffy brakes + slightly rough base car with sound motor and good stoppers... what would any of us do given this combo?)
Hope you manage to find out about which gearbox is best, although in your position I'd likely just swap the blue car's engine/box complete seeing as the 5 speed appears good for now & then make a more permanent decision if/when the clutch next needs attention. (plus I think 5 is plenty enough gears for any TD engine with a hint of pride)

Re: 607 engine swap
I swapped an engine from a 607 in to my C5 it was a 2.2 diesel same engin code.
Straight swap no ecu to mess with, old one out new one in. Fuel pump is mechanical so no worries there.
What did you do in the end?
