2.2 HDi won't start - getting desperate
Hi guys
I really hope you can help or point me towards a possible solution to my issue with our Peugeot 607 2.2 HDi Aut. that is decorating our front lawn, but won't do anything else.
It won’t start after I changed the copper washer between injector and the engine head - in danish we call it a “flame disc” on one of the injectors. Long story short - had a mechanic look at it for 2 months. He couldn’t find the issue, but ended up replacing the injector I pulled. Still won’t start.
PP2000 parameter readings when I try to start:
Cam/Crank shaft is in sync
Rev/min is 200 - 225
Measured fuelpressure is 400 bar
Difference between fuel pressure measured and fuel pressure recommendation is -178 bar (fault here?)
Injector correction for all 4 injectors is 0.04mm3
Injector voltage on all is 78 volts.
Current diesel pressure regulator is 11.8 mA
The low pressure pump is activating on ignition and is running when I crank the engine. I have diesel at the injectors.
My main suspicion is low pressure on the rail so the injectors doesn’t open up, or some other problems causing the injectors to stay closed?
I have 2 permanent faults related to this issue:
Fuel high pressure regulator: short circuit or open circuit
Diesel pressure signal: short circuit or open circuit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 2.2 HDi won't start - getting desperate
The low pressure on the main fuel rail is probably the issue. If my memory is correct (but I am NOT certain) there needs to be 200bar on the fuel rail before the ECUs will allow fuel into the cylinders. I would say your two permanent faults are certainly relevant.

Re: 2.2 HDi won't start - getting desperate
I'm no expert, but from what I understand the pressure measured (400 bar) is TO HIGH as the difference between fuel pressure measured and fuel pressure recommendation is (negative) -178 bar. In other words ( as I understand it ) - measured fuel pressure ideally should have been 222 bar. Not sure I'm right though...

Sounds about right - what does it read before you crank the engine? You could try unplugging it and then plugging it back in; after that you will probably need to fit a new sensor.

Re: 2.2 HDi won't start - getting desperate
Before cranking I got these values:
Measured fuelpressure is 0 bar
Difference between fuel pressure measured and fuel pressure recommendation is -178 bar
-178 bar seems like an "our of range" value, not an actual value.
Another strange part is I tried unplugging sensor and HP fuel regulator and also 2 sensors/regulators on the fuel rail, as well as the sensor at the fuel filter. I still godt 392 - 408 bar in measured fuel pressure when cranking. That shouldn't be possible when I have the sensors disconnected - am I missing something? Also it's gone into energy saving mode and after that, no longer powers the low pressure pump in the tank.

Did this small video so you guys can see...
Re: 2.2 HDi won't start - getting desperate
Will it fire with a sniff of easy start ?

Nope - it will only make a "fart" - doesn't seem like it's getting any diesel.

Re: 2.2 HDi won't start - getting desperate
If it wont run on easy start I would check the cambelt timing, could it have jumped a tooth? The pressure regulator on the back of the HP pump can cause all sorts of problems but it still ought to fire on easy start.

Re: 2.2 HDi won't start - getting desperate
Agreed, if it won't fire on easy start there is either no/low compression or the air intake is restricted.
Even if you removed the fuel tank from the car or should still fire on easy start.
When checking the valve timing don't forget there is a little timing chain linking the two camshafts.
Also the energy saving / Eco mode does not stop power to the LP fuel pump.

It does fire on easystart but dies again right away... thats what I meant with it "making a fart"

Right, it should run for a few seconds and knock like the clappers, if it does that its a fuel problem, possibly the regulator on the HP pump.

Sounds like a possible immobiliser problem to me
