508 gt rough idle from cold

Post by 407iain »

Hi guys, I have the above car and it has developed this issue very recently.
First start of the day it has a lumpy idle. After that it runs fine. No loss of power or anything.
I have stuck an egr blank in to test, but its still doing it.
Any ideas?
I will scan it again with planet to check, but last time I did it had no codes that might help diagnose.

Thanks.

I've just noticed a lot of air in the clear pipe between the priming bulb and the fuel filter. Could this be my issue?, I suppose I could try a few days of priming before each cold start.

Could be the issue, your best option would be to bleed the system and reprime it.

Thanks for the reply.
After further looking I found the lhs injector 1?, had black spooge around it. I've cleaned it all up. Could be a leaky injector. Are they easy to re seal, or will it need replacing. Injectors are a bit out of my comfort zone!
I'll keep a check on it over a couple of days, but the others have no muck around them at all.

If you can get the car on Peugeot Planet or Diagbox, then you'll be able to test the live readings for each injector

I've got the laptop on charge, so after breakfast I'll see if I can find the readings. I've only ever used it to do the global test for fault codes.

OK - go into Test by ECU, select Engine/Gearbox, and there is Parameter measurement in the menu. You'll have a selection of parameter options - I think you'll need the first 2 (it's worth looking through them all to be safe). It'll show the injection flow/rate, expected rate and also the correction. You'll quickly be able to tell if an injector is anomalous.

Well, luckily I got through to the warranty company on the day the warranty expired and started a claim. Its going in to Peugeot next Monday evening, so they can study the cold idle issue on Tuesday.

The phone rang a couple of hours ago. "Mr X, we're struggling to find an issue. The ecu is not showing any fault codes".
It might not said I, but there is definitely an issue. Did it run badly this morning?
"Yes" came the answer.
I think you best keep it until tomorrow and get a mechanic to look at it again then. Try looking at the pool of diesel around one of the injectors.
Pfft.

They've still got it, no update. Good job I only work weekends isn't it.
I feel a phone call coming on.

Well, after pratting about for the best part of a week. The 'faulty' inlet air temp sensor has been changed. Aaaannd it still has the fault. Sorry Peugeot dealers I'm out, its going to my local guy for the injector seals doing, and I'm billing them for the work.

Just as a follow up and a solution to this. I had it back around a week after Peugeot faffed with it and due to time constraints hadn't had time to get it booked in elsewhere.
One day I went out to it, going to pick the wife up from work, it decided to try and throw one of it's injectors out of the head (amidst a welter of noise and soot clouds) I got it recovered to the garage I usually use.
Turns out at some point the injector yokes had been over tightened, which as you can probably guess, stripped the threads in the head. Meaning the wannabee escapee wasn't clamped in correctly.
So thanks Peugeot you useless fools. If I could 100% prove one of your chimps did it I would be billing you for my expenses.
