i recently bought a 207 on a 57 (2008) plate with exactly 50000 on the clock...
the car itself drive faultlessly, very quick and goes as it should.
not engine warning lights, but there is a rattle around the 3000rpm mark. and can be heard more straight after i come of the accelerator, but still does it if the car is stood in neutral i i give it a rev.
driving around town, changing gear early its fine no issues. or atlesa the noise is quiet enough that it cant be heared.
it does soundf like it may be coming from the timing chain area, im fully aware of the issues these cars have with their chains, but from my understanding its usually heared most at idle and cold starts...
heres a small video, not sure if you will be able to make it out, but it was a quick attempt.

Is it the rasping noise when you've come off the revs?
Might be worth checking the tensioners and pulleys. If you can, get the car on Peugeot Planet and see if the timing is ok

Re: 207 THP150 engine rattle.
These engines are notorious for the timing chains stretching. We had huge problems with ours, there's a thread on here about it. I wonder if what you're hearing is the chain flapping about against the tensioner on overrun as it goes from being under tension on revs to loose when you lift off.
Usually you can hear a slapping noise from it as you change gear.
Any competent garage should be able to take the rocker cover off and try and lock the timing. Our chain was stretched to the point that the timing pins wouldn't fit.
I'd get it looked at quickly and wouldn't thrash it until you've had it looked at. Ours has a massive amount of work done to it at 60k. 50 - 60k is about where they tend to need looking at.
David.

Re: 207 THP150 engine rattle.
Sounds very much like a fairly slack chain to me - I'd stop driving it entirely for the time being to be on the safe side, granny it around with your fingers and toes crossed if you absolutely must drive it for the time being.
If you have a little mechanical ability and a free morning one weekend you can quickly confirm that you do indeed have a duff chain / tensioner with a timing light (cheapo ones are only about £20). Just search for a how-to on youtube and you'll find a few good vids. I'm quite partial to Scotty Kilmers!
Should show up a cam / crank sensor error on any good diagnostic software also as previously mentioned.

Not necessarily, our chain had stretched by about an inch yet the cam and crank were still showing synchronised in Peugeot Planet.Goc3k wrote:Should show up a cam / crank sensor error on any good diagnostic software also as previously mentioned.
