Hi Folks
Took the 206 1.1 for a good long run yesterday on fast A roads and started getting a pronounced wobble on the front wheel (s), although think its the nearside one. Only seems to be when I am accelerating hard and 50 mph+ When I backed off the gas it eased off a bit. I replaced the wheel bearing on that one last year and fitted (what I thought) was a good second hand drive shaft a few weeks ago. Most of the driving I do in the car in urban and country road trips. Any thoughts, wheel off balance?
Cheers
Alan

Is it worse if you go round a corner? The MA boxes used with the smaller engines have a habit of eating their diffs.....

Re: 206 1.1 Wheel wobble
Hi Richard, no just in a straight line. Booting it away from a roundabout on a straight line, get up to around 55 and vibration through the steering, in fact the whole car shakes. I thought initially it was rumble strips on the road but alas not. If I back off the gas, it goes away and I can accelerate gently without it returning! I was going to swap the front and rear wheels a side at a time to see if I get an improvement. Same wheels since I bought it last year so may need balancing. To say the last owner ran it on a shoestring would be an understatement!!! Spent hours and ££ on that car since I got it for my daughter in Apr 2015.

Re: 206 1.1 Wheel wobble
I'd start with having the front wheels balanced. Cheapest option. Assuming there's not a massive ding in the wheel or the tyre is severely out of round however the balancer / fitter will (should!) spot either of these conditions as it will be immediately obvious when they spin the wheel on the balancer if its not visible to the naked eye on removal.
If the inner CV joint is worn (inner) it can cause vibration under heavy acceleration. My 205TD used to do this although there was no apparent play in the shaft until I removed it from the car.
I'm assuming bottom ball joint is OK as you'd hear that knocking if nothing else.
Tried the low speed (5mph) full lock left / right around a car park listening for CV crackles yes ? This would only make noise with the outer joint though in most cases.

Agree with Andy re: one of the inner driveshaft joints.

Even after removal it can be very difficult to spot wear in an inner CV joint...spider wrote: If the inner CV joint is worn (inner) it can cause vibration under heavy acceleration. My 205TD used to do this although there was no apparent play in the shaft until I removed it from the car.

Re: 206 1.1 Wheel wobble
Thanks Chaps, it is a recent scrappy drive shaft fitted - looked like new as well. Maybe it is a dodger! Mmmm Will fit new boots to the old shaft - it was just the boots needing replaced really but as I could get a complete booted shaft for £20 it was rude not to! Will try the wheel swap first as that's less hassle.

Re: 206 1.1 Wheel wobble
Swap your front and rear wheels over to eliminate tyre problems, they could be out of balance or have ply separation.
