Diagnostic socket on Peugeot 205

Post by Peugeot205XR »

Got trouble with my 1990 Peugeot 205 XR 1.4 KDZ 75bhp. Its just done 49 000 miles.

I have driven it for several months without problem. 4 days ago is startet to get ruff to start. Its about 2 celsius degrees out side, so its not that cold. The idling becomes fine after the engine gets warm. When I put it in gear the engine dies out. After several attempts the ecu-light goes on in the car. Then its driveable. Smells like gasoline. Could it be a bad lambda/oxygen-sensor, og what else?

Where is the diagnostic socket located on this car? And how do I read the errors?

Thanks for helping

Look at the picture; Is diagnostic socket in one of the red rings?

These old 205`s do not have the modern standard 16 pin diagnostic socket. They have a two pin one,I think its inside the box by the battery that contains various relays?
Your best bet is to find an old school Peugeot specialist workshop that still has the old style Peugeot/Citroen diagnostic kit.

AS the garage if they still have their old TEP92 machine (the Peugeot version of the ELIT)

Alternatively, many of the Citroen Lexia clones available on EBay come with the Peugeot Planet software and the required two-pin diagnostic leads..

My Lexia Clone is so equipped and in theory I should be able to read the ECU in question. Shame you're in Norway or you could have paid me a visit..

Thanks, I will take a look in the enginebay to locate the 2-pin diagnostic socket.
Are they diagnostic plugs the plugs located in the red rings in the picture above?

Tried to search the ebay to find this two-pin reader for my 205, but could not find any. Yes, its a shame im in Norway. I would really try to fix this issue with mye 205.

Just did a check under the bonnet.

No false air from the inlet.
Lambda is ok - changed to a new one yesterday.
Coolant-sensor ok
Airfilter new
Sparkpluggs, dist.cap new

Drove the car several miles today in the "closed loop" mood (the dash-light was on at all time). The car was a bit hard to start when the engine was cold. After the engine was getting hot the car was easier to start. The car goes fine without any problems in this mode. But its only fine in "closed loop" mode and its not driveable in "normal mode" after ecu is restartet (battery disconnected for about 5minutes).
I think it will be impossible to get the car started when it gets cold. So I need to fix this issue.

Could this sensor be toast (Inlet air temperatur sensor)? What does it do?

Here are two videos from my Photobucket. The first video shows my issue. The gass-response is not good, and when I put the car in gear to drive forward it stalls and dies out. After some attempts the light shows up in dash and the ECU goes inn "closed loop". The other video shows the gass-response when the car is in "closed loop" mode (red light i dash is on). As you can see and hear its normal and good, as it also should be in "normal mode", but it isnt.

ECU-errors:

Code 53 - Lambda error
Code 21 - Idling regulation stepper motor control
Code 13 - Inlet air thermistor

Just by changing to a new "stepper motor control" the problem was solved. The car was fine to drive again. Easy fix.

But had to solve the other problems as well. New lambda and bad connection to the inlet air temp-sensor. Quick fix as well.

When blowing high pressure air over the inlet air temp sensor it gives 0 K-OHM (gets colder)
Image

When holding my warm finger over the sensor it dropps 3,370 K-OHM down towards 3,3 if it gets warmer and warmer

This messurement was done in a garage at 9.5 celsius (if someone want that info as well).
