407 hdi flywheel replacement/timing belt questions

Post by jsp »

Hi all,

I have a acquaintance who has a 407 sw hdi 136bhp with 160k mls (261000km) on the clock

the dual mass flywheel has failed.

I was thinking of the KIT4P that valeo sells to make it single mass flywheel again.

do you really need to remove the engine to gain access to the gearbox or is gearbox hoist easier?

Its a front sub frame off job, then the gear box can be removed, lots of work.
As for the DMF, the argument over solid kits has been done to death many times here and on just about every other car forum.
My line of thought is,if it comes with a DMF replace it with a quality O/E new one.Your model was designed around a DMF to accommodate balance/vibration etc.A DMF is like a spring,it gives,so fitting something solid will cause something else has to give.

I have done both options many times, believe me the Origional dual mass is the best option, also there is virtually no cost difference.
The cars usually drive a lot worse with the conversion kit.

Does anyone know which one is correct? and which notch upper or under to use for pre tension?

And I also have removed the camshaft pulley to replace the seal behind it does anyone know the Nm/ft.lbs for the camshaft pulley is?

You have not taken any notice of our advice ?
There was no need to go to all that work and remove the engine, also we said its best to fit a new DMF. So best of luck.

No DMF is always breaking and the customer asked for SMF anyway. you can't make me believe two DMFs in just 260k km right?

And there was a leak behind the engine needed to have a look.
