re: 405 heater fan full blast

Evening all.

I presume this is a fairly common issue and my apologies if it's been covered recently, but could anyone point me in the right direction here.

Just bought (another!) 405 auto and on this one the heater fan is always on full blast, the previous owner had had to take the fan fuse out to stop the noise. I thought it may have been the heater control unit on the dash as that's where the fan speeds are controlled from but no, having disconnected the head unit the fan's still going full pelt. In fact using the fan slider seems to make the fan go even faster, so it's obviously starting from a high point.

Should I be looking at the fan unit itself under the dash/relays/any other ideas?

Sounds like the fan speed resistor may need replacing.

not sure of the cause, but the fan's everso easy to get at on these. Just remove the panel immediately below the glovebox and try an alternative one

Agree with Elma. Excellent article on the Citroen site on how to replace. Did mine, works a treat. Transistors available on the Bay.

Thanks all, was indeed the fan resistor!

Fan assembly easy to get out, but typically mine had no screws holding it together as in all the manuals, and had to be prized gradually apart to get to the resistor. Once changed proved to be the culprit.
