Re: jumping of timing of Peugeot 406
A couple of questions to clarify the problem:
What year of car is it, and which type of engine is fitted?
Did the timing belt break, or did the timing just jump while running?

first things first I would fit a new belt and do a compression test to see if it has bent any valves you might be lucky
