Auto box problem

Post by bangerdemon »

Hi,

I hope someone can help.

We have a 2006 2.0HDi 807 (63000 miles), with the BVA-AL4 AT8 auto box. On Thursday, my wife was doing the school run, and She had faults show up on the OBC saying "GEARBOX FAULT" and then "SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM FAULTY", and before she could stop, she lost all gears.

She was recovered by the RAC, who did a diagnostic and came up with the following fault:

P1003 Auto gearbox function information/value received incorrect.

Today I had an auto electrician out to do a proper diagnostic using "Diagbox", and he got a fault code:

P1167 Invalid test throttle not pressed (AL4 - Fault in pressure regulation - variation/recommendation).

He tested the pressure readings, and the pressure should be 2.5 - 3 Bar. The actual pressure reading was 0.20 Bar!!!

Is there any common faults with these gearboxes, or does anyone have an idea of what would need replacing, or is the gearbox totalled??

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It may be time to renew the pressure regulation solenoid, this is usually done in concert with the torque converter lock up solenoid as they are of the same type and beside each other.
