One OK, one not so

The C4 Picasso ruined its turbo at 69k, and then ran out of oil pressure at 76k, ruining the vac pump in the process. Having said that, despite the oil pressure light coming on at m-way speed, the engine survived with no apparent ill effects - so it's a tough old unit basically. I didn't remove the sump strainer, I'm thinking I might drop the sump again in the summer, and rip the filter out.

The 307 is seemingly better - I took out the turbo oil feed filter at 85k and it was clean, as was the vac pump oil inlet, so that one seems better. EGR valve is bit noisy after shutdown sometimes so that might need to come off in the summer - bit of PITA on the back of the head, but can be had new for <£100.

It's not a bad engine to work on - although I don't fancy doing any work on the injection rail etc over the back of the engine in these installations where they're under the scuttle.

I'd have another - just check for FSH, and whip the turbo oil filter out tout suite.

New wheel bearing in - turns out the play was in the bearing not the B-J so I didn't change that. managed to get the ABS sensor bolt out this time - flooded it into a lake of plus gas, then gave it a bit of heat. Mangled the thread on the TRE though, so had to change that (had to do the other side as well, and fortunately had bought 2). Sadly soon as I start the engine BING - ABS fault.... so either I've not got it plugged in properly or the sensor has given out #-o Only £11 on the bay so not a disaster.

ABS fault = user error  they work better if they are properly plugged in!! In my defence there was a lump of grit in the connector preventing it going home. Ready for MOT now then..... [-o<

Something still not right..... disc is catching I think, there was a little tightness when rotated when I put it back together, assumed it would work out, but it hasn't and there's a rythmic throbbing as you drive along  altered by braking. Guess I have got a piece of grit of something behind the disc, so it will have to come off again....

Took the disc off, load of crap in the back of it, so no wonder it was running out of true. Much better now. However, still have play in it - I think it is the inner tie rod joint  might pass MOT on Monday, might not.... :?

Passed :-D

Advisory on play in NS ball joint (which I don't think it is, because I couldn't find any when I had it off!). No mention of anything at the rear, despite the loud banging noises over bumps :?

It has finally revealed itself!!

Driving along the road just along the road from the office, and there are some old railway lines crossing - was greeted with a loud bang as I crossed, and then a pretty severe sounding rattle from the rear. Stopped and had a look, but couldn't see anything hanging off, so drove steadily home. A quick feel shows the OS damper is all floppy at the top, so presume the top mount has broken up. Got a replacement from the local breakers for £15 - not ideal, but it will get it useable again whilst I think about getting a new pair of shocks and top mounts.

First one was no good - the design of the mount has changed. Eventually turned up the right one at the breakers, back together, and its much quieter. The top of the mount has just dissolved, allowing the bush to pop out. There is a slight knocking from the NS which suggests the top mount there is also suspect.... Need to see about getting a new set of dampers and mounts I think!
