boxer not turning over

Post by zacharyj »

Hi I'm new to this any help would be most welcome I've have got a 2004 boxer the cam belt snapped so I changed the broken rockers and put a new water pump on and timing belt kit. The engine turns over by hand fine. But when I went to start it there was nothing and the engine light is on. I've checked the starter motor and that is fine.

Thanks for any help

Check the battery voltage with the starter engaged, if its not dropping substantially from 12v the starter is not being engaged which could be an ignition switch or immobiliser fault, if the voltage drops to nothing either the battery is u/s or there is a wiring fault.

The immobiliser on this van doesent stop the starter turning so its not an immobiliser fault.
The mk1 boxers/relays are common for the braided earth strap between the body & gearbox corroding, not sure if mk2's like yours are the same ? The bolt normally snaps when you try to undo it from the gearbox.
I assume you have checked ALL the fuses ?

Try running a live lead from the battery and touching the small terminal on the starter, if it turns there is a wiring fault, if it doesn't the starter is faulty - assuming the battery and earth connections are OK of course.
