I suspect that this problem has been discussed before.However I can't seen to find a definitive answer.I have 1997 406 2.1 executive with duff speedo - not working.
Suspected sensor and remove for inspection/test. Getting some output which looks like it could be waveform?Can't find interface box so could prob be with speedo head?

I`m pretty sure the old 2.1 has a speedo interface and is located up behind the glove box, assuming yours is RHD.The speed sensor on the gearbox is the most common cause of complete failure of the speedo and mileometer. My wife's 406 speedo head is faulty but the milometer works all the time and the speedo needle works when it feels like it. GSF have 406 speed sensors for about £30.
