Hi There
Quick question if anyone can answer.
I have a Peugeot 306 2.0 HDi – T reg, 60K on the clock, the car is in perfect condition. The timing belt hasn’t been changed. Advisory is 96K or 5 years – clearly mileage hasn’t been reached but 5 years is long past! The question is should I get it changed or wait a while?
Any advice appreciated.

Re: Peugeot 306 HDi Timing Belt
The chances are it won't break but there is always that nagging doubt. If you can take the top cover off, which means removing the top engine mounting, you will be able to see the belt, any sign of cracking and it will need changing.

For the price of getting it changed at a decent Indy, it's not worth the risk of not doing it along with the water pump and tensioners. You should be able to get it done for not much more than £200 all in. The interval is actually 100k or 10 years on the same engine in my Berlingo..

Re: Peugeot 306 HDi Timing Belt
i believe 5 years to be way tooooo long for a timing belt, as although it is high tech rubber it is a perishable item,
i think 3 years within the prescribed mileage is just about how long i would trust a cam belt for
i would be very surprised if a T reg car was still on its original cam belt, regardless of its mileage,
if it is in deed the original belt you are really pushing your luck every time you crank it over

Its all been said, any perfect 306 is worth keeping so spend the money and get it done, not worth the risk.
By the way,I`ve just had a 2002 206 with 69K on the clock strip a cam belt.

Re: Peugeot 306 HDi Timing Belt
Hi everyone and thanks for all the answers.
The Pug is getting it's belt changed tomorrow for less than £200. It's a cracking car and I'd hate to see it broken for the sake of a couple of hundred quid ... Last 306 hdi did 170K so hoping to get a good few more years out of it.
Once again thanks for the help.
