206cc misfire cylinder 2

Post by johntom »

Hi
I have a 53 Reg, 206cc, 2.0, 40k miles. The car feels to judder on cold start, no fluctuation on the tacho but the gearshift shakes etc. After a mile the 'anti pollution' message appears along with the EML. The only codes showing on 'planet' are 'permanent misfire cylinder 2 (p0302)' and 'intermittent misfire cylinder 2 (p1338)'
I have changed the plugs (Bosch) and the coil pack but no change. The car ides smoothly when warm?
Any help appreciated, heard stories about tappet issues ?

my first thought on this would be coil pack, presuming it is a petrol car that is

Yes it's petrol. Plugs and coil pack changed no improvement

First question, Does Lexia show all cylinders or just two pairs?

Second question, did you check your plug gaps, and look at the tip colours?

Third question, how does it compression test?

Fourth question - new or used substitute coil pack?

Hi
The old plugs were all the same light brown colour, the gaps are ok. I have changed the plug and the coil pack so u suspect it's either the injector or the tappets ?

What was the coil pack you put in - new or used?

Hi the coil pack was new and made no difference. When the car is started from cold it idles smoothly for about 20 seconds then starts to judder, however it's ok from warm. The other day I sat holding the throttle at about 1500rpm from cold (to smooth it out), with a bit of revving the 'catalytic conveyor fault' message appeared with a flashing EML, then it changed to 'anti pollution fault' and a solid EML. Pretty sure that the light goes out when the car is near temperature so it must be heat related, expansion etc?

From the previous reply; I haven't compression tested it, I think planet gives fault codes for each individual cylinder?

you could try swapping number 2 injector with another cylinder & see if the fault moves, remember thought that PSA engines number the cylinders back to front & number 1 is at the flywheel end.

Hi
I have swapped 2 & 3 injectors this morning (as I wasn't sure about the Cylinder numbering, so I covered it either way). I started it and it still juddered but couldn't get it to bring on the EML and a code - probably because I let it idle too Long before setting off. The anti pollution etc comes on when it sets off from cold and revs for some reason. I will let it cool off and try again for a fault code.

Penny just dropped; EW10, cold start judder/misfire and antipollution fault. This is endemic, I think it may be related to the air pump affecting ECU voltage stability.

The free fix is to let it warm up before driving off.

Thanks where is the air pump and how do I check it?
Also why 'misfire cinder 2' ?

Cylinder 2 might be a tad lower on compression or have a sticky lifter. The coils measure resistance to spark generation as a means of gauging the cylinder's health.

The air pump I can't place on a 206; look on Fleabay for a picture from a breaker, then hunt it down.
