Partner/Berlingo lower "balljoint"

Post by bertiewhite »

My 2002 partner had an advisory on last year's MOT for lower balljoint. Having looked online for spares I noticed that they seem to either screw in to the lower arm or come as a bolt on bracket with 3 holes. On looking at mine however, it seems it's held in with a clamp/bolt. Is this right and how easy is it to change myself?

The ball joint bolts to the wishbone with three bolts.(I have seen some that have been riveted though!!))then the ball pin locates in a hole in the bottom of the strut held tight with a pinch bolt.Very simple job to do.
Make sure all the dimensions of the new part are the same as the old one as there are a number of sizes of ball pins etc.

My Berlingo has the balljoints made with the arm, one piece arm and joint and not removable. New balljoint = new arm.

That's the 2.0HDi arm style.

this is strange?? I went for the Partners I`ve worked on that all had the bolt on ball joints, same suspension as a Peugeot 306.
I`ve just been on GSF`s site and there are THREE different types of suspension shown??,as above,a ball joint that screws into the bottom of the strut, and a ball joint that is part of the wishbone.
Without seeing the OP`s its impossible to decide. As far as I can tell it depends on year,petrol/diesel,van,combi. Vin number to Peugeot will tell you.

OK, thanks for your replies - I'll take a photo and post on here maybe but I might try asking my local motor factors as they always ask for the reg number to locate the proper part anyway.

Hi Citronut, the last 8 is : 60529626.
Also on the V5 is says "Variant/version: 5CWJYF" - will that be any use in tracking this or any other parts?

I have actually had another look at it tonight and it seems that the clamp I saw was actually a pinch bolt that goes on the top of the ball joint (that the hub attaches to?) and the bottom of the balljoint seems to be fitted into the wishbone. It's definately NOT the bolt/rivet on type.

pug service box shows it to be bolted to the arm with three torx bolts and nuts,

for some reason it shows two part No.'s

FRONT TRIANGLE ARM BALL-JOINT
DIAM 18 HAUT 32,5

VSJ807A
M:SUSPENSION BALL JOINT PSA
- AND AGE >= 4

i dont remember what "AGE >= 4" this means,
im sure someone on here does ( RichardW maybe )????

That's the economy range for cars out of manufacturer's warranty, probably a Motaquip part number.

thats most odd, as pug service box show with your chassis No., a ball/swivel joint that is bolted to the end of the arm,

the one in your picky is one piece with the arm,

is it possible someone in the past has fitted the different type of arm?????

just had another look with a general search on pug service box, and not with your specific chassis No.,

and it comes up with the type of arm in your picy for

DW8B DIESEL AND NORMAL SUSPENSION AND WITH MULTIFUNCTION ROOF OR
DIESEL DW8 AND NORMAL SUSPENSION AND WITH MULTIFUNCTION ROOF

list of part No. for the above

3521 R4
RIGHT
ASS

3520 Q5

As I said earlier,it is strange?? I`ve done loads of Partner/Berlingo/306 ball joints and never seen one like that. Anyway GSF are showing one of those so your best bet is to take yours off and ask for "one of these",if you have a handy GSF that is.I bet a complete TCA from a Dealer would cost an arm and a leg, ha ha.

Hmm well the van has done 180k+ so it's reasonable to think that some work has been carried out but why someone would change the whole wishbone if they could have got away woth just the joint seems strange. Both sides are the same by the way. I have seen complete arms online when I was looking just for joints so I'll look again. Thanks again for your replies.
