Wind back discs

Post by civvie »

Have to replace front disc pads on a 207 soon and have been looking at those caliper rewind tools that push in the piston as well as turning it at the same time. There are some that are a left hand thread and some a right hand thread, what's the difference? do I need a left one for nearside, and a right hand one for offside. I know it may seem like a daft question but I have been used to useing a good old G clamp before to push it in.

I believe on a 207 you can use a G Clamp. The wind-back tools are used for calipers (front or rear) that operate the handbrake too. The 207 doesn't have a front handbrake so has pistons you can just push back in.

as Mike said you dont require special wind back tools for 207 front calipers,

you can use a G clamp or even just lever the pistons back,

you only need these for calipers with the hand brake mechanism built into them

Thanks Mike and Malcolm for the input, when its time to also do my 3008 that info will help here there as well.

Was my reasoning correct that the left hand thread was for nearside and offside was a right hand thread? or is it the car makers keeping us on our toes.

im not sure which side winds back which direction,
but most the cars i have dealt with have been the likes of BX'ies and theres just wind back clock wise on both sides,

im aware the C5 has c*o*c*k and anti c*o*c*k whoooops i mean clock wise :-D  pistons/calipers,but havent done enough to impress into my brain which side winds which direction

Malcolm, on the C5 they wind in in the opposite direction to normal wheel rotation.
