206 ABS ECU

Post by evilally »

A mate of mine has a 206 (1.4 HDI, '57 plate), and the EML, ABS, STOP and airbag light all come on, and the speedo doesn't work. This is symptomatic of the ABS ECU failing, and this was verified by a garage with a diagnostics scan (although I don't have particulars about the codes).

The garage have advised that a new ABS ECU would need to be programmed in before it will work. This seems to be correct, as ServiceBox states after refitting ECU "Configure : The ECU ABS/ESP ; Using a diagnostic tool.", so I can only assume a Lexia would be required.

I'm a little uneasy about this as I wouldn't know how to do this with a Lexia, and I don't know if a second hand part is ok to use. Can they be reprogrammed into a different car, or does it lock to the first car it's used with?

Not sure about wether it is locked once fitted, you can change the ECU without loosing fluid though, as it can be separated from they pump assembly in situ. Configuration is simple, as it asks what size wheels , and engine type from memory.
If you matched a used one from a similar car it would likely just work, as there is no vin code to be configured .

Most useful information, thanks! That makes sense, we'll try and source an ECU from a car with same engine/wheels and hopefully it will be plug and play.

You can re use a second hand one no problem, if you get one off the same spec of car then you wouldnt have to reprogram anything, the only other thing from memory it needs to know is the gearbox type.

Similar thing has happened on my 307, although it was only the speedo abs and stop light that are always on. After using a lexia 3 diagnostic tool, I believe i've isolated my problem to the front left left speed sensor.
