307CC Airbag???Fault?

Post by kentc5 »

Hello guys,

A strange thing that happens, I have a 307CC (05) model and there is no fault normally.... but when someone sits on the passenger seat or I put my hand on the base of the seat. It will come up as Airbag Fault a few seconds later.
When I restart the car there is no fault at all.

Cannot find any information about that anywhere online?
There are two cables under the seat (one Green clip) (one Red clip). There are two small plugs hanging down... under the seat but they connect no where?

Cheers
Vasilis.

Are you sure they are not plugged in ?

There may be one for the buckle tensioner (if it has them not sure if its in the seatbelt 206 style on these or the buckle) and one for the side airbag.

Non UK models (can be found here in RHD form) sometimes have a seatbelt sensor pad I think but that might be just the drivers seat I'm not sure.

If possible use Planet to read the code when its acting up. Best way is to just sit in the passenger seat then try a diag so it will fault on you.

nope they are just hanging down from the seat ... hovering above the floor.
The seat only connects to two cables one with green latch and the other with red. And they feed in the floor area through a hole.
I do not have a planet :( only have a generic OBDII and the only fault code I get is U0500 which I have no idea what that is.

So to sum it up there are 4 plugs coming out of the loom from the seat. (2 are connected) and 2 are ... nowhere to connect.

The seats are not electric. non heated.

Hmm.

Try this for now if you have a switch to turn off the passenger airbag on the dash, turn it off.

Now try the passenger seat 'weight' again, does it still do it ?

The results of this are inconclusive though but if it persists its likely sideairbag or seatbelt / tensioner concern, if it stops its the passenger airbag in the dash.

I'm assuming no curtain airbags fitted although iirc you cannot turn these off anyway easily.

Don't forget to re-enable the airbag switch on the dash after 'testing' if its normally on.

I did try that and the light came back on again.
I do not think it has curtain airbags as the roof is not "fixed" being a convertible.

I wonder if cleaning the seat ... could have caused something.

So I think ... The warning comes on ... when it senses weight and it is going to get the airbag in standby... then it senses there is a problem somewhere and brings the error.

Forgot you said CC sorry. :)

There may be a weight sensor so that is not deployed if there's no passenger present that's all I can think of really causing it.

Although if the switch was faulty it would have a fault or you'd not know, but the thing is if there's an airbag fault it should be always present as it would check them all.

I think you do need a diag session really to get any further.

Alfa have the same sensor plugs as the Renault (even the diamond logo!) so I presume the same sensors, too - and the same problem...

Would not be at all surprised if the Pug has a similar issue.
