I've got an intermittent instrument cluster fault. Occasionally when the key is turned on first its like a christmas tree - pretty much every light is on, including low fuel level and STOP. The guages read on the bottom. The lights stay on like this even with the engine running (although it shows an antipolution fault message pretty quickly). The lights all stay the same if the engine is turned off and you get out.
I've not yet had a chance to plug in pp, but its happened twice since the last time i read the codes.
Turning off and waiting for the BSI to shut down (dash lights go out) clears the problem, and its started back up quite happily each time so far.
All ideas welcome !

Off hand only the panel earthing I would check, not sure if its going to be easy to find.
They are LEDS, I think them all lighting up is part of a 'test' procedure although why its doing it when it feels like I'm not sure.

I'd say earth points. Check them all, including the ones under the battery tray. Sadly one bolt holding it on goes through the wheel arch so you'll need to take off the wheel and arch liner.
But look on the bright side, you can make the liner more sturdy by throwing away the standard clips:
and replacing with these:
They give a much better hold.

Check the footwell areas (behind side trim etc) and possibly if you can easily get to it the centre of the bulkhead dashboard side ie infront of central console.
If you can get the panel out easily, worth looking behind there too as you'll be able to see any direct earths plus anything near the top of the column as well.
I'll try to take a look for earthing points (I think they are on Service box's wiring) when I get a bit of time later.

Could not find one, I'm sure there was an earthing points diagram though

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll try to find time over the weekend to take a look.

Re: 307 HDi 136 instrument cluster fault
sorry for the delay, too many things to do ! I've had a roundup of earth points, and they all seemed fine. No corrosion or loose wires anywhere. The issue has not repeated for some time now, so I have no idea what caused it at all !
