406 Hdi Steering wheel change

Post by patrickgledhill »

Hi guys, The steering wheel on my hdi has become very worn. Im curious to know if its much of a job to replace it and also if the "newer look" wheel will fit onto my 2000 model

Cheers and thanks

They're quite easy to remove (albeit usually the centre bolt is very tight), but for safety you should let the car go to sleep before unhooking the battery and working around the airbags. Use a good quality Torx bit and small breaker bar - don't whack the column with an impact driver.

Leave the nut (maybe a bolt on later models) on a few turns do not completely remove it as if you wiggle the wheel off it may free itself suddenly resulting in loss of pride when it catches you in the face ( )

I can't see why they'd change the shaft for one type of wheel to another.

If you're not familiar with how fragile the cockspring is, be careful or you'll clock it up.
